A week goes by fast! Now that I'm here it seems like time is flying. I waited and waited and waited, it took FOREVER for my Michigan trip to come, and now that it's here, WHOOOSH, I blinked and a week went by.
Father's day was one of the highlights of my vacation thus far. I woke up Brett, we cooked dad french toast, bacon and eggs, took naps, saw "The Green Lantern" (which was good in 3D), and then went to my grandpa's house (Dad's dad!), and cooked steaks, broccoli salad, asparagus, and red potatoes, finishing up the evening with strawberry shortcake and entertaining Booger in the car. A full day, and lots of fun. Remember how last post I talked about pictures? Well, for father's day, made my dad a scrapbook (digital scrapping is AWESOME). He got to the second page and started bawling. It's only tuesday and he's already started showing patients the book. It's pictures of Brett and I since we were babies up to now, about 20 pages of pictures. He's very proud. I'm also doing my happy dance about finding/making the perfect gift. Last year, I got my dad a tie (which we always got him), but it had a goofy picture of Brett and I printed on it a million times. He showed the entire hospital. This year, I had to figure out how to top that. NAILED IT! Picture book, but now what do I do to top that?! Perfection is a tough game to maintain, believe me, I've spent most my life trying.
Other than stalking my doctor so I can get permission to ween one of my seizure meds, and low white blood count, this week is about visiting. I visited with a new doctor friend, had lunch today with my dad's office manager who pretty much watched me grow up, and am going to finally see my BFF from highschool in a couple days. I visited my favorite coffee shop which is AMAZING, and on the fly visited with one of my dad's patients today. Also, I met a new friend who is also from Manistee but now works in Manhattan, visited with Brett, with Mom, with Mike, and even got a visit from Jason earlier this week.
Jason surprised me Friday morning. He flew in to Detroit to surprise his dad with a visit for the holiday, and was able to sneak in a surprise visit to me and spent a day with me too in this short trip. He was a good sport and as always, flexible, and made a big effort to make me happy. Flying across the country for a one day visit is pretty dang romantic man, and I was too dumb to see how romantic is was until it was over, but he won some points I'm sure he'll cash in later.
Jason's birthday is this coming Friday, he'll be 25 (ewww a quarter of a century!), and he and I tend to go "all out" for birthdays. This will be the first one in awhile that we are apart, and I'm going to miss the part where he opens his present, it's my favorite part! This is why I'm an obsessive shopper all year for the holidays, and why I called Brett every 5 minutes for an hour because I wanted to tell him about a tshirt I found for him at the mall that suits him so perfectly I couldn't wait a week until he'd see himself. I love the moment where someone opens something they never knew they wanted and loves it. I video-tapped Jason opening his presents last year because he always has such a great reaction. He's not a very outwardly expressive guy, and for our anniversary he gushed and gasped like a little girl at my gift. I love stuff like that. I got my dad to bawl like it's the "You complete me" moment in Jerry McGuire, I cried too, luckily not on the french toast. Jason will be opening his gift at work this Friday, so I hope someone else takes the time out to catch that moment. I apparently already got this month's quota of gift gushing. =)
Whether a planned gift, a surprise visit, or an impromptu conversation, I'm getting many moments these days, the ones you never knew you wanted and love them. It's the longest day of the year today, this helps me have a growing sense of ease that there are plenty more to come, One less thing to worry about.
