So, the first checkpoint was my surgery, which I made look SO easy. Brain surgery is sexy, it really is. I scared the crap out of everyone I love and looked GOOD doing it!
Radiation, now that was definitely a harder battle. Daily driving for 30-75 minutes depending on the traffic, that sucked. Loosing my hair on the right side of my head and the irritation and whatnot. Not so sexy. Chemo, I actually tolerated that well, I was able to eat spicy food, sugar, etc. I only got sick one night when I had McDonalds. ( I was craving a big mac and a quarter pounder so I had a quarter pounder with big mac sauce, it was worth it!!) Tonight is my last night of Chemo for at least a month! Cross your fingers, I could get lucky and only need to do a short amount of "maintenance" chemo. However, second checkpoint, tedious, a lot of work done for me on behalf of my family and my lover, a lot of boredom, then frustration, and overall whining on my part, but DONE!
WELLLLLLLLL..... what's left of this "second" part is actually the steroids. Steroids are crafty little buggers. They help me function because they make my brain not want to explode from swelling, BUT they swell everywhere else. I want to EAT, (OMG I'm fatty fatty no friends!) it keeps me AWAKE (you can tell for the next three hours after my steroid dose because I talk talk talk talk talk), and my face is PUFFY! I actually feel like "Megamind" these days. I'm experiencing lots of pressure, like my head is twice it's size even when I look in the mirror and it's not my head, it's my face. I hear ringing in my ears all the time, it's strange. Moon face is a common side effect of steroids, and it's driving me nuts. Silly moon, why did you have to borrow my face?!
Yesterday, I called myself jiggly puff, and Jason made that pokemon noise for the rest of the night and poked at my face. Uber attractive! =) I've also created the "puffy emo face." Normally I do a pouty face and put my hair in front of my eyes to get my way with Jason. Now, puff your face out like a blowfish and then do a pouty face with your hair in your eyes, and you have the new and improved "puffy emo face!" It's sure to be a winner, I highly suggest trying it when you're trying to get your way. It will get a laugh out of your target at the very least!
Anywho, I'm still taking a LOT of medicines, but I get a break from my daily commute. More time to Nap, oh goody! Still puffy face, and cross your fingers for less seizures, because that is my ticket to being able to drive again!!! C'mon lucky seven because I am not going to gamble with people's lives out on the road until they say ok!
For my last trip to radiation, I brought a thank-you card and a fruit platter to all my friends at Dr. Gibbons office. I'm going to miss all my nurses and the people in the lobby and the puzzles! Also, here's a fun little tidbit: All of my tshirts are my Albany shirts from reslife, from relay, from all that school spirit stuff. SO, I wear purple, a LOT. My radiation techs noticed this, and teased me when I wore orange one day, blue another. They thought something was wrong! Also, when I'm in my "start wars ride" every day, they offer to let me pick the music and whatnot. I never did, nor needed to, I always got a kick out of their music. So today, I brought them a mix CD and made them guess why the particular songs were on it!
This was one of the songs, along with Purple Haze, Purple Rain, Smoke on the Water by "Deep Purple", and Vasoline from Stone Temple Pilots (from their Purple album), and Purple by Scott Leger.... Notice the trend?? They guessed it before they hit play! I could hear them laughing from the other room when this song finally started playing! Also the purple people eater made a cameo.... =) I had a hard time staying still today because I was holding back laughing!
I was allowed take my mask with me too, so you guys will be seeing pictures of that soon. Jan my nurse said I have a pretty face. You'll see my pretty Lector mask face. oooooh! In the spirit of Hannibal I've been telling my mom "it puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again" so she doesn't forget to moisturize!
Today is April fools day! I kept bothering my mom and Lisa on how we were going to pick on the boys. So.... we decided to make them eat sushi! The boys are very picky eaters, and so we knew it would be tough to find sushi they would like.... so we went ahead and made some fruit rollup, rice krispee, and twizler sushi! They ate it!
This is what it looks like! HEY! Kind of awesome right?
We celebrated my "milestone" today! Lisa always knows how to make the ordinary special. She makes valentines day and st. Patricks day like out of this world for the boys, so I got the "special treatment" regarding my achievement today. Mom of course treated us to dinner too! I picked BBQ! Ribs! We got mostly meat from the place, and then just made green beans at home. Yummmy. Then, it was flowers, a card, and CHOCOLATE!!!!
My flowers! OMG they smell amazing, AND THEY ARE PURPLE!
My card from the boys!!!
Mom mid-bite and pausing to yell at me for photographing her stuffing her face! WE ALL DID, IT WAS AMAZING!!!
So now, it's catching up on idol, and who knows what tomorrow will bring. I'm EXCITED, like a whole day that's mine! It's the first time in 2 and a half months. Yes, I will still be tied down by a pill schedule, but I can put those bad boys in my suitcase, I mean, purse... =)
Still sailing through these milestones, it is momentum! This is so important, gaining my stride in this fight, that it's familiar to move forward, to keep chugging... I'm picking up speed, one less thing to worry about!!
